Perennial Seeds
Perennial seeds can be found in any gardening store, as well as ordered through the Internet. Perennial seeds have the advantage to annual seeds in that the plants will re-grow year after year.

Perennial seeds do, however, require much more time and effort to grow into full plants. There are generally two ways to grow perennial seeds. One way is to begin growing them in pots indoors. The perennial seeds should be planted in March and stored under lights or on a sunny window ledge. The perennial seeds should be grown for six to eight weeks, and then transplanted to their permanent location in the garden.

A second way to grow perennial seeds is to plant them in a shaded nursery bed in late June. During the fall, mulch should be applied to the area to protect the small plant. In early spring, the plant should be transplanted to its final location in the garden.

Several nurseries or garden centers will have perennials that have already grown through the first year. These will not have to be grown from the perennial seeds, and can be treated like annuals. The drawback to this method is that the plants get accustomed to their original location and may go into shock when transplanted into their permanent location in a garden. To avoid this possibility, it is best to simply grow the perennial seeds in the permanent location from the beginning.
